Job Summary:

Provides medical assessments, treatments and transportation to all age groups, in and out of hospital settings, through approved protocols or under the direction and/or supervision of physicians or registered nurses in support of the nursing vision.

Essential Duties:

Assesses, treats, and provides transportation to patients according to established State of Iowa Emergency Medical Services rules and regulations, State of Iowa Model Protocols, and hospital policies and procedures, independently, collaboratively or under the supervision of physicians, physician assistants, or registered nurses and according to the scopes of practice allowed by the State of Iowa and CHI Health.

  • Provides, assists with, or participates in education for team members and community.

  • Performs and ensures safe, knowledgeable age-specific patient care in a holistic manner.

  • Performs value-added activities that result in positive financial performance and customer satisfaction.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.



  • Graduate of an approved EMS training program.


  • Must hold Iowa license as an EMT, EMT-I, Advanced EMT or Paramedic

  • For employees hired after January 01, 2013, must have and maintain National Registry Certification

  • Current BLS (All Licensure Levels) & ACLS (EMT-I, Advanced EMT, and Paramedic)

  • PALS & NRP completion is encouraged for EMT-I and Advanced EMT and required for Paramedic within 6 months of employment.

  • Must have a current driver’s license with an excellent driving history and be able to operate an ambulance in emergency situations. (Chauffer endorsement required)

  • PHTLS and AMLS are encouraged certifications


  • PREFERRED: One year of experience as an EMS provider on a licensed ambulance service.
