Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  1. Provides leadership as a role model in developing and implementing the team concept of patient care delivery.

  2. Coordinates patient care on all units (i.e. Med/Surg, ED, SCU, LTC and Infusion Center). Makes rounds to all departments, as able.

  3. Adjusts staffing after hours, on weekends, and in the absence of the nurse managers and staffing coordinator, consistent with patient care load and acuity.

  4. Knowledge of nursing personnel and their strengths, in making staff assignments.

  5. Ongoing evaluation of staff performance and provides positive reinforcement as well as guidance and support for improvement of care delivery.

  6. Ensures a safe working environment and emphasizes that safety is our first priority.

  7. Maintains open and direct communication with administration, nursing administration, other supervisors, medical staff, department managers, and other staff.

  8. Works independently in accordance with the Iowa Nurse Practice Act, MercyOne Medical Center policies, patient care standards, and professional judgment.

  9. Maintain clinical competencies to serve as a mentor to staff and as a clinical resource to patient care personnel.

  10. Other duties as assigned by management.


Minimum Qualifications

Required Education for Staff Job Levels

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing- RN

Required Licensure and Certifications

RN licensure, BLS,ACLS, PALS

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Mandatory reporter, after hours pharmacy access
