Job Summary

Rockwell Collins is seeking an experienced Semiconductor Reliability Engineer to join our Commercial Systems Reliability Engineering team. Our work supports the development of innovative aviation electronics solutions for one of the world’s leading Aerospace companies. This position will afford the opportunity to develop assessment methodologies and pursue research toward fulfilling this need.

Job Responsibilities

The individual will be a member of our Reliability Engineering Team, and will help implement and execute new processes and practices in reliability engineering to address the challenges related to current and future electronics. Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Performing Neutron Single Event Upset susceptibility and mitigation analyses.

  • Developing and/or researching new reliability engineering analysis and test methods for use with sub-90nm technologies, including microprocessors (multi-core), SoPC's, various memory technologies and FPGAs.

  • Help our company experts in Single Event Effects (SEE) develop and implement analysis and testing techniques to mitigate the effects of SEE in our product designs.

  • Performing Reliability Assessments, which includes performing reliability predictions and establishing initial MTBF estimates based on the predicted and fielded performance of similar equipment. Includes statistical reliability analysis.

  • Determining failure rates for complex semiconductor devices from alternate data sources.

  • Help determine methods for dealing with endurance/wearout issues related to the ever shrinking feature sizes in modern semiconductors.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline.

  • Background in atmospheric radiation effects (single event effects) analysis/testing per IEC 62936-1 (effects on avionics) and -2 (testing) is a must.

  • Ideally 5 or more years in semiconductor industry and familiar with semiconductor failure modes and mechanisms. Background in IC assembly/packaging is strongly desired.

  • Proficient in reliability statistics/models, failure analysis, JEDEC and IPC standards.

  • Component failure modes and wear-out mechanisms is also strongly desired per JEDEC

  • Self-motivation

  • Effective oral/written communication skills

  • Effective interpersonal and team skills

  • Knowledge on how to prepare and present technical information to peers, to all levels of internal management, and to external customers

  • Ability to perform detailed analyses on complex systems
