The Senior Mechanical Engineer responsible for the electronic packaging of factory and depot test equipment. Individual will work with a variety of Collins Aerospace product lines with internal and external customers while coordinating with a variety of suppliers and organizations; specifically electronics and electronics packaging. Work would be focused out of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Developing or support development of system requirements for test equipment

  • Developing conceptual mechanical designs that support defined requirements

  • Designing detailed mechanical subcomponents which may include and not be limited to:

  • Printed Circuit Design

  • Cable Design

  • Chassis Assemblies

  • Panel Design

  • Assisting with estimating efforts for future projects,

  • Developing and maintaining project design milestones and schedules.

  • Supporting of Hardware Design Cycle:

  • Preliminary Design Review with Customer (PDR)

  • Internal Hardware Design Review

  • Critical Design Review with Customer (CDR)

  • Coordinate procurement of hardware subcomponent (internal or outsourced)

  • Support Delivery and Acceptance Test of test equipment

  • Ability to work with procurement and mechanical fabrication shop to create and integrate mechanical components.

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience OR

  • Advance degree and 3 years of relevant experience OR

  • In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Must have a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidate should possess knowledge of principles and techniques commonly used in product development, perform assignments requiring the use of moderate mechanical engineering principles and techniques, and be capable to quickly learn and adapt to the variety of products and programs supported.

  • Candidate should be able to function with limited/no oversight of day-to-day activities and will be required to plan and manage mechanical activities within project scope, budget, and schedule constraints.

  • Good organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments are essential.

  • Familiarity with forced and natural convection cooling is desired.

  • Ability to perform basic structural analysis and design desired.

  • Possesses good research skills and practiced verbal and written communications skills.

  • Working knowledge of MSOffice Products, Unigraphics NX, ANSYS, Flotherm, and/or experience with metal fabrication is highly desirable.
