What You Will Do:
As part of the Competitive Analysis team, you will analyze the competitive landscape for administration of retirement plans, including defined contribution, defined benefit, rollover IRAs and other workplace products. You will actively contribute to R&D, developing insights into peers and working with Product Development and Distribution toward the goal of developing top-quartile product and service offerings for Transamerica. The role encompasses record keeping, technology, advice, in-plan guarantees, customer and employer experience, group insurance products, as well as understanding market trends and provider M&A. Special emphasis will be on researching peer companies’ attributes in the expanding areas of financial wellness, student loan repayment products, emergency savings, HSAs, partnerships in the area of employee benefit marketplaces, cyber-security, and related products and services. Transamerica is a data-driven company; business intelligence skills, data management and database development is a core aspect of this role, including in support of team-wide efforts.
What Success Looks Like:
Develops competitor reporting and narrative analysis to improve Transamerica's offerings and market positioning, making Transamerica more innovative, competitive, and responsive to market trends and to customer needs
Synthesizes a variety of inputs, and information and data sources to create and maintain databases of peer companies’ product pricing and features, known or inferred strategies of competitors, and statements of management teams
Build and maintain Excel and Tableau reports containing visualizations of the data we take in to provide our team and its stakeholders an understanding of Transamerica’s standing in the market Work with Competitive Analysis team members on report improvements and to understand what type of reporting is most helpful for the questions they are receiving
Evaluates written sales, gross/net deposit trends and asset growth comparing Transamerica with competitors
Analyzes market share/rank trends (quarterly or annually depending upon data availability) comparing Transamerica with competitors. Leads the retirement plan sections of publication of the quarterly Competitive Analysis Chartbook (for both data and written analysis)
Expand competitive intelligence in group insurance coverages, including group term life and group long term disability
Develops relationships with Transamerica colleagues in Distribution and Product Development to gather insights from those on the “front lines”
Communicates broadly to a wide range of internal audiences about Transamerica’s product strategy versus that of peers
What You Need:
to empower people, and especially our employees, to add years to their lives and more life to their years. That means a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience. MBA and/or CFA is desirable
Minimum of 5 years of experience in product research, market analytics, data analytics or comparable analyst role, or work experience in retirement plan administration that would prove valuable to transitioning to an analyst role
Analytical and strategic thinker to ascertain, evaluate and report on the competitive landscape
Advanced writing, communication and presentation skills for delivery of analysis to senior management. Includes ability to create presentations in PowerPoint
Solid quantitative analysis skills, including demonstrated facility with Excel. Data skills to include experience with Alteryx, Tableau or other data management/data analytics/business intelligence tools
Able to work independently and produce high-quality analysis under tight deadlines
Relationship building skills to engage the product development, actuarial, marketing and distribution groups
Team player, eager to share information both within the team and to key stakeholders across Transamerica
