Production Engineer - Cedar Rapids, IA

The Production Engineer is responsible for setting tactical and strategic direction for the

Fructose Area within the Wet Mill facility. This employee will work with and

report to the Fructose Department Superintendent. The duties may vary by day, and hours may vary based on specific tasks. Duties include setting daily direction for operations through standard work, maintenance planning/prioritization, ensuring trainees are meeting training milestones, assessing trainees on competency, overall reliability of Fructose area, troubleshooting Fructose plant upsets, execute focused improvement solutions within Fructose, maintain ELSP and area specific safety items, own Standard Operating Procedures within Fructose, monitoring/tracking of Title V permit requirements, create strategic vision to maintain optimal plant operations, participate in plant initiative activities, and other tasks as required. This person will be responsible for updating and maintaining all Fructose related PolicyTech information. For the tactical portion of the job, the Production Engineer is required to drive out losses within the department to ensure Fructose is capable of hitting maximum plant throughputs.

Job Function:

  • Communicates effectively with the department operators, contractors, engineering, and supervision.

  • Maintains close contact with the operations, advising the Superintendent as problems are encountered.

  • Create action plans on how to eliminate bottlenecks and/or losses within Fructose

  • Proactively anticipates challenges and hazards and works to eliminate them before they impact the Fructose area, both operationally and safety

  • Utilize the Performance Excellence pillars to drive out losses and optimize Fructose area

  • Works directly with Maintenance Planner and Maintenance Superintendent to prioritize Work Orders

  • Determine the timing for execution of maintenance work orders and schedule LOTO activities with operators

  • Detailed and in depth troubleshooting of problematic systems and areas.

  • Maintain operational standard work for operators to provide day to day guidance

  • Assists with operational activities on D3 and in field

  • Ensure trainees are progressing on training plans, providing feedback to further their training experiences

  • Evaluate and qualify trainees to designate the have the required competency to run the Fructose area

  • Provide insight on employee feedback to Operations Supervisor and Superintendent during annual operator merit review process

  • Create strategic goals for Fructose to maintain optimal reliability and efficiency

  • Enter and approve Work Orders as issues arise that need attention with appropriate prioritization (Code 1, 4, 7, 9)

  • Must be a highly motivated individual and have the ability to motivate others for task completion.

  • Must be able to work well with others in a team environment, as well as the ability to work well without supervision.

  • Excellent attendance and positive attitude on a daily basis is a must.

  • Ability to issue hot work and confined space permits

  • Maintain, update, and write all ESLP documentation for Fructose

  • Maintain, update, and write all SOP’s for Fructose

  • Assists in equipment periodic inspections.

  • Ability to align to department’s priorities and self-manage workload accordingly

  • Keep safe practices at the forefront of all activities and positively engage other team members in the safety culture

  • Leads by example through following ADM’s Code of Conduct and its Core Values.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Work Environment:

  • Primarily Monday – Friday, but available for operations outside of standard working hours.

  • Work with various chemicals and caustics

  • Work with vibrating equipment on occasional basis

  • Hazards: work on slippery/uneven surfaces and at high elevations on constant basis

  • High and low temperature extremes

  • Work in cramped positions on frequent basis

  • Stand for long periods of time.

  • Lift 50 lbs.

  • Carry ladders and tools.

  • Climb ladders

  • Walk long distances

Preferred Skills:

  • Experienced Fructose Qualification

  • Good communication skills and ability to communicate with individuals on multiple levels

  • Mechanical and operations aptitude

  • Strong troubleshooting skills

  • Excellent in LOTO policy and procedures

  • In depth knowledge of Wet Mill facility and associated processes outside of Fructose
