The Collins Aerospace SATCOM Communications team seeks a Principal Software Engineer to support the Communications, Navigation, and Surveillance department’s SATCOM software group. The group supports, integrates and develops multiple commercial avionics Iridium and SATCOM products for the Air Transport and Business and Regional aircraft markets. In this position you will be part of product development for the growing field of aircraft satellite communication solutions.
This position is for an experienced Software Engineering professional with vast knowledge and highly developed technical expertise. The position will be for someone who develops, coordinates and conducts development on complex systems. Also will make recommendations on changes in architecture or design of many software aspects to SATCOM products. This position will also allow for implementing major software components, presenting design reviews, participating in bids/pursuits, and coordinating with other organizations and departments.
Lead and mentor teams on the design, coding, testing, integration and documentation of complex software.
Drive changes to internal processes and tools for software development to increase productivity or quality.
Recommend changes to improve and develop software engineering development activities.
Design and implement software and build procedures that are used to support hardware and software product development.
Understand and streamline RC processes and tools during product development, resulting in increased product quality and improving customer satisfaction.
Participate in cross-department team efforts for products and sub-systems of high complexity.
Liaises closely with multiple domains in the department for the planning, bidding, design, and development of new and existing products.
Build, test and deliver software to target environments in support of program and customer commitments
Translate system level architecture and requirements into software architecture, requirements, and implementation.
Provide industry recommendations and designs for the development of software design & architecture.
Lead the Design and Code Reviews to identify and eliminate problems early in the development process.
Determines end user needs by analyzing system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, and input data acquisition.
Lead engineering estimates for tasks such as change requests or problem reports.
Develop software configuration standards for directorate-wide use.
Will train and mentor software developers in all aspects of design and development.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 10 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 7 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required.
Advanced skills in modern C++, Python, C, and Embedded Linux development
Advanced experience in an avionics/aerospace domain environments and DO-178 standards.
Advanced experience leading & mentoring teams of engineers.
Advanced experience in both Waterfall and Agile environments
Additional experience a plus:
Development experience with networking technologies and communications
Development experience on satellite communication productions
Development experience on automated test frameworks (using Python or Robot)
