The Avionics Power Electronics Center (APEC) is a highly skilled engineering organization within Collins Aerospace, supporting the military and commercial aviation businesses by designing high-reliability power electronics solutions (AC/DC power supplies, EMI cards, lightning protection...). The major functions provided by APEC include design & development engineering, advanced technology development, strategic sourcing, and technical project management.

Job Summary:

The APEC organization is seeking a Staff Electrical/Power Engineer

The ideal candidate will have experience in power electronics design (power supplies, EMI filters, etc.). He/she must be highly motivated, adaptable, and capable of working in a multi-disciplined team with a positive attitude, and proficient in managing project cost and schedule.

This individual must be capable and interested in overseeing and mentoring a group of engineers and their designs. The candidate must have good communication skills for conveying technical approaches, trade-offs, risk assessments, and recommendations.

He/she must be able to design solutions that meet aircraft power/EMI requirements described under MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD- 461, and DO-160. This includes power architecture, advanced power technology development, derivation of requirements, simulation, magnetics design, trade studies, design for manufacturability, design to cost, verification, troubleshooting, power factor correction design, and factory support.

Must Have Requirements:

  • Experience developing, capturing, and reviewing system level power requirements (MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD- 461, and DO-160)?

  • Experience with various power levels and frequency ranges, DC/DC and AC/DC power conversion designs (topologies, components, control, packaging, etc.).

  • Experience with EMC/EMI, thermal stress, and other environmental issues and their impact on design methodology.

  • Power supply magnetics design experience, planar magnetics design experience a plus? (min 4 years)

  • Experience on the above within the aerospace industry is a plus

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of prior relevant experience OR

  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years’ experience OR

  • In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required

  • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
