As a Materials & Process Engineer, you will work as a member of the Component & Material Evaluation Laboratory functioning as a local expert in the fields of organic materials and chemistry. This position is very hands on and will include sample preparation and testing of organic materials in support of qualification, failure analysis, production support, process improvements, special projects and engineering development. Selected candidate will be able to react quickly to changing requirements and developments. This position requires collaborative problem solving with technicians and engineers, a logical troubleshooting aptitude and the ability to work well independently and as a member of a high performance team.
Primary Responsibilities:
Analyzes product failure data and laboratory test results to determine causes of problems and develop solutions.
Develops safety procedures for workers operating equipment or working in close proximity to on-going chemical reactions, to ensure adherence to safety and environment and health regulations.
Monitors material performance and the evaluation of material deterioration to ensure required specifications are met.
Experience operating and interpreting results from FTIR and thermal analysis equipment (TMA, TGA, DSC and DMA)
Understanding of various analytical techniques (SEC, GCMS, AFM, XRF, XRD, etc.).
Strong analytical techniques, mechanical testing of materials and the ability to work with delicate parts is desired.
Documentation, equipment calibration and upkeep.
Perform screening and characterization of a variety of materials including residues, thermoplastic and thermosetting materials, adhesives, tapes, etc. Testing may include peel, adhesion and cure kinetics.
Effective communication with customers, both written and verbal is also required.
Basic Qualifications:
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of relevant experience OR
In absence of a degree, 7 years of relevant experience is required
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience operating and interpreting results from FTIR and thermal analysis equipment (TMA, TGA, DSC and DMA)
Knowledge of various analytical techniques (SEC, GCMS, AFM, XRF, XRD, etc.)
