Our Cedar Rapids facility is seeking an outstanding candidate for the following position:

Automation Engineer

An Automation Engineer will play a vital role in challenging and exciting programs to improve safety, quality, reliability, up-time, capacity, yields as well as reducing emissions and total costs. An Automation Engineer will drive these improvements working with the core teams on several projects by applying various advanced automation and process control tools and techniques. An Automation Engineer will build a strong support staff which will be working closely with the area process engineers and area coordinators. Involvement in day-to-day troubleshooting to assure safe, continuous operation is a must. The Cedar Rapids plant has several unit operations – fermentation, filtration, centrifugation, granulation, etc. and the production processes are mostly batch controlled. Sister sites are located at several places within USA as well as internationally. Essential Responsibilities include:

  • Setting direction and providing day to day troubleshooting for DCS hardware/software, instrumentation, and controls.

  • Designing and Implementing process control schemes to support existing processes which include process efficiency improvements, optimization, process variability reduction, compliance with environmental and safety requirements and equipment/process reliability. Also, Identifying new process control improvement opportunities.

  • Procuring, installing, configuring, and life-cycle maintaining DCS hardware and software (includes work stations, servers, networking equipment, operating systems, and other software)

  • Assisting in process/maintenance troubleshooting activities and RCFA investigations.

  • Participating actively in PHA, PSSR & AALR activities.

  • Implementing process control standards and Sharing “Best Practices”.

  • Key customers include: process engineers, area coordinators, process technicians and maintenance personnel.

  • Sharing the responsibility for providing weekend and off-hour support for the plant-wide automation needs.

Qualifications

Job Qualifications

  • B.S. in Engineering with minimum of 2 years of experience in developing and commissioning process control systems.

  • Desire to work in a manufacturing environment.

  • Demonstrated expertise and understanding of distributed control system (DCS) and programmable logic controller (PLC) architecture.

  • Demonstrated skills in configuring, testing and troubleshooting process control and instrumentation systems.

  • Familiar with PID controls and cascading controls.

  • Demonstrated success in managing and leading both long-term programs/projects as well as address short-term operational issues.

  • Understanding of the principles of operation, reliability and performance characteristics of process measurement instrumentation, analyzers, control valves and VFDs.

  • Experience in Batch Control systems and applications.

  • Experience with Data Historian systems.

  • Knowledge of various interfacing technologies such as Ethernet, Modbus, OPC, DeviceNet, AS-I, etc.

  • Familiar with Virtual Windows Operating Systems and Servers as well as Microsoft SQL Server.

  • Good Technical writing skills.

  • Must have strong attention to detail.

  • Self-starter with strong work ethic.

  • Can prioritize and manage multiple tasks to meet targeted deadlines.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact daily with personnel at all levels in a team environment.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Emerson DeltaV experience

  • OSI PI experience

  • Certified Automation Professional (CAP) or Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST)
