Job Description:

Job Title: Registered Dietitian

Department: Grocery

FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function:

As a Registered Dietitian, this position will be responsible for counseling customers on dietary needs. Prepares and delivers presentations on various health and nutrition subjects. Researches, and provides information on products in the Health Market. Additionally you will ensure a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members.

Reporting Relations:

Accountable and Reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Health Wellness Home, Store Operations, and Perishables

Positions that Report to you: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.

  • Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner.

  • Makes an effort to learn customers’ names and to address them by name whenever possible.

  • Assists customers by: (examples include)

  • escorting them to the products they’re looking for

  • securing products that are out of reach

  • loading or unloading heavy items

  • making note of and passing along customer suggestions or requests

  • performing other tasks in every way possible to enhance the shopping experience.

  • Answers the telephone promptly when called upon, and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call.

  • Counsels customers on dietary needs, including heart disease, high blood pressure, weight loss, diabetes, food allergies, and intolerances and other nutrition concerns

  • Provides dietary education for pharmacy customers and partners with pharmacists in health promotions.

  • Facilitates monthly group seminars in the store on various health and nutrition subjects.

  • Prepares and delivers nutrition presentations for corporations, schools, community centers and organizations, and conducts “nutrition tours” of the store.

  • Answers customer’s questions about all foods and supplements and their usage and health benefits.

  • Researches new products for the Health Market.

  • Assists other departments by obtaining nutritional,promotional materials from specific organizations such as the American Dairy Council.

  • Makes promotional announcements over the intercom system explaining health benefits of food for different departments.

  • Researches for answers to customer’s questions and makes nutrition information available.

  • Maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.

  • Adheres to company policies and individual store guidelines.

  • Obtains HIPAA certification and respects all patient confidentiality matters.

  • Keeps current on nutrition topics and customer trends.

  • Achieves required Continuing Education hours.

  • Provides in-service education for employees as required to include food safety and sanitation, wellness and nutrition.

  • Completes Hy-Vee Media Training and attempts to promote Hy-Vee nutrition services on television, radio and/or written media forms.

  • Participates in food experiences to provide nutritional benefits of the demonstrated product and to increase sales.

  • Reports to work when scheduled and on time

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in other areas of store as needed.

  • Performs other job related duties and special projects as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

  • Must have the ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to solve problems; several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Have the ability to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.

  • Must be able to report, write, or edit articles for publications; prepare and deliver lectures; interview, counsel, or advise people; and evaluate technical data

Education and Experience:

Four year college degree approved by the American Dietetic Association and certification to be a Registered Dietitian. Six months of similar or related work experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be physically able to perform light work: exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

  • Visual requirements include clarity of vision at distance of less than 20 inches and more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.

  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Climbing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, feeling, talking, and hearing

Working Conditions:

The work for this position is normally conducted in an office or clinic environment at store locations. There is significant work pace/pressure to maintain clinic schedule and daily exposure to blood.

Equipment Used to Perform Job:

Calculator, Cholestech (cholesterol test), Glucometer, Blood pressure cuff, computer, two wheeler, ladder, four wheel cart, telephone, fax machine, and copier

Financial Responsibility:

Responsible for medical equipment used in blood testing.

Contacts:

Has daily contact with general public, suppliers and vendors

Confidentiality:

Has access to confidential data includingpersonal health information. Maintains confidentiality of customer’s private medical information.

Accordingly, I acknowledge that exposure to hazardous drugs may cause acute and chronic effects.
