SUMMARY Coordinates and participates in providing perioperative nursing care to clients of all age groups. Assists with orientation and supervision of personnel. Consults with and keeps supervisor informed of unit activity. Serves as a resource person to staff.
Responsible for pain clinic, ECT's and pre-op COVID testing. Must be comfortable in different daily roles.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Addresses the psychosocial, physical, and general aspects of care related to the surgical environment.
Communicates with surgeon and anesthesia continuously and as needed about patient condition.
Assesses operating room for equipment functioning and readiness, obtains supplies for individual cases, and ensures all appropriate needs of the surgical operating team are met.
Monitors, positions, and assists patient during procedure.
Directs and assists in carrying out safe aseptic techniques and procedures.
Directs and assists in accounting for all sponges, sharps and instruments when appropriate.
Participates in the maintenance, handling, location and care of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
Responsible for circulating or scrubbing and maintaining accurate and complete records. Able to assist in draping, room preparation, and cleaning after procedures.

Completes all other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree (A. A.) or graduate from a school of nursing.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before customers, patients, families and employees of the organization.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Graduate of an accredited school for professional nursing.
Licensed and currently registered as a professional nurse in the State of Iowa.
Minimum of one year experience in Med/Surg and/or ICU.
ACLS and PALS certification within twelve months of employment.
TNCC certification within twelve months of employment. Exception: A Surgery RN who’s primary assignment does not require them to take call or respond to Trauma Reds such as Endoscopy RN or software support.
PACU class and/or competency-based orientation within six months of employment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and blood-borne pathogens. The employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of radiation. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
