Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides and manages direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses, procedures, and treatment as a physician of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN), in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.

• Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions.

• Refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate.

• Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required.

• Takes part in providing on-call coverage for hospital services.

• Trains and supervises medical students and residents engaged in specialty activities and procedures, as appropriate.

• Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, Medical Staff Bylaws, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.

• As appropriate to the position, participates in specified health promotion, education and/or prevention programs.

• Works willingly and accepts assignments as given.

• Attends all mandatory meetings and programs.

• Participates in opportunities that enhance personal and professional growth.

• Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.

• Complies with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, regulations, and Standards of Conduct relating to the position and agrees to report any suspected violations of law or Standards of Conduct.

• Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations.

• Maintains a safe work environment using safe work practices, utilizing standard precautions and complying with hazardous waste procedures at all times as described in St. Anthony's Safety Manual.

• Maintains the confidentiality of patient, resident, employee and organizational information.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required. May serve as a department director to the Medical Staff.

Qualifications

Education, Licenses, Certifications

• Graduate of an accredited MD or DO medical school program.

• Graduate of an OBGYN Residency program.

• Fellowship training preferred, but not required.

• Certification/Licensure: State of Iowa Licensure and CSA certification. Federal DEA Certification; Board certified or Board Eligible in Specified Area of Medical Specialty.

• Basic and Advanced Life Support for adults.

• STABLE Certification

• NRP Certification

• Pediatric Advanced Life Support.

Position Requirements-Knowledge and Skills

• Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care.

• Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards.

• Knowledge of community medical diagnostic and patient care services.

• Ability to supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and/or students in area of expertise.

• Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage.

• Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.

• Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise.

• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

• Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.

• Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.

• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Conditions of Employment

• Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.

• May be subject to credentialing process; must maintain credentialed status, when applicable.

• Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.

• Must maintain certification and/or licensure status.

• Compliant with employee health requirements

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from patients, families, managers, and the general public.

Physical Demands

• Work involves exposure to unusual elements, such as unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear and use hands to finger, handle or feel.

• Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day. Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds on occasion. The employee may frequently sit and reach, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

• Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.

• Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training.
