Job Description

Only applicants who meet the Minimum Qualification Requirements and meet all selective requirements (listed below) will be placed on the eligible list.

The primary purpose of the Chemist position is to analyze official samples for presence or absence of pesticide residues.

Applicants are encouraged to submit a cover letter and resume describing their relevant experience. Application materials can be uploaded in the Attachments Section for this position.

Job Duties:

  • Pesticide residue sample preparation, extraction, and quantification by using gas chromatography mass spectrometry and high-performance liquid chromatography mass spectrometry.Maintain proficiency by participating in appropriate check sample programs.

  • Quantitative and statistical evaluation of data, maintaining laboratory notebook, writing final reports, maintaining sample inventory and program records, using a LIMS, working under ISO 17025 standard, and testifying in court (<1%).

  • Help maintain the laboratory by completing minor maintenance and repairs on equipment. Maintain the software on analytical equipment. Interact with company representatives to repair equipment.

  • Help with routine maintenance of the laboratory by ordering chemicals and supplies, cleaning glassware, waste disposal, organizing and cleaning the laboratory.

Laboratory method development and scientific training both on- and off-site.

Selectives

953 Chemistry Degree

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in chemistry or a closely related physical science including the following college coursework: general chemistry and lab, two semesters of organic chemistry and labs, quantitative analysis and lab, and instrumental analysis and lab.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in chemistry, biochemistry or a closely related chemical science;

OR

a combination of education and experience substituting one year of employment in the capacity of a laboratory technician at an advanced level in a chemistry laboratory for one year of the required education with a maximum substitution of four years;

OR

employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to four years of full-time work as a Laboratory Assistant 3.
