Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is accepting applications for a Systems Analyst I who will be a member of the Information Technology (IT) team in the department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine.
This position will be responsible for the continuous development, improvement, and support of IT applications that support the department and the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL). Under the supervision of Manager of Information Technology, this position will also be responsible for writing, maintaining, and assimilating information from external and internal data sources in order for the data to be warehoused and mined. Applications include database driven, client-server, and web-based systems. Additional duties involve the development of instrument interfaces that promote a consistent result import.
The purpose is to allow the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL), primarily within Food Supply Veterinary Services, to generate credible information for evidence-base practices and business decisions. This is a key position given the multitude of data sources and the volume of information contained in them. The ability to integrate databases, queries and extract information in a variety of formats will greatly aid the data management. This resource will provide validated information for stakeholders, faculty and students to learn and research evidence for decisions affecting population of animals.
The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be able to effectively participate in team efforts on multiple, simultaneous projects, be self-motivated, detail oriented and sensitive to deadlines. In addition, excellent programming skills, knowledge of professional software engineering practices including coding standards, source control management, build processes, testing and operations will also be necessary.
