Performance of activities focused towards in vitro expression, detection and monitoring of antigen targets derived from both standard and novel expression platforms without supervision. Responsible for both technical and communication roles for his/her function to associated project core teams. Designs and executes non-routine experiments on a basis of literature analyses with minimal supervision. Supervise/train technicians and junior scientists. The primary scope of responsibility is within the immediate function and secondarily within a multi-disciplinary project team.

Duties &Responsibilities:

  • Initiates, designs,interprets accurately, troubleshoots and completes routine procedures such asstandard molecular biology techniques including cloning, cell culture, proteinexpression and purification independently and efficiently; initiates, designs,interprets accurately, troubleshoots and completes non-routine and difficultprocedures without supervision; Initiates and conducts exploratory experimentswhich include design and assessment of protein/antigen structure.

  • Proposes, gainssupport for and implements ideas from individual’s knowledge of science andtechnology and understanding of protein/antigen structure for use in the earlyvaccine discovery process.

  • Proposes, evaluatesand implements new technologies; independently applies basic scientificprinciples, performs literature searches, attends scientific meetings and keepsup-to-date on literature in own field.

  • Effectivelycommunicates and defends own work, orally and in writing, in the context of thecompany and team goals at meetings.

  • Demonstrates acontemporary level of technical proficiency in field; trains technicians andjunior level scientists in this field.

  • Complies withapplicable regulations, performing all work in a safe manner; maintains properrecords in accordance with SOPs and policies.

  • Operates with ateam-based mentality and aligns project priorities within landscape of limitedtime and resources. Organizes andschedules accordingly to maximize delivery of results in timely manner. Participate in cross departmental projectteams when assigned.


  • PhD from anaccredited institution with two (2) years of experience in a related scientificdiscipline; Or Master’s Degree from an accredited institution with a minimum ofsix (6) years of experience in a related scientific discipline; Or Bachelor’sDegree from an accredited institution with minimum of ten (10) years ofexperience in a related field

  • Advanced training inthe area of technical expertise

  • Understanding of thesciences of vaccinology

  • Understanding ofanimal disease and pathophysiology

  • Understanding ofadjacent fields of antigen characterization, structural biology, and proteomicsis a plus

  • Able to focus on keyproject deliverables, understanding of the concept of timely delivery ofmilestones

  • Interpersonal skillsto connect within the other parts of the AH ID

  • Passionate, positiveattitude

  • Outstandingflexibility, adaptability and sense of accountability

  • Demonstratedknowledge of field

  • Demonstrated projectmanagement skills

  • Propose newexperimental designs, Conduct probing experiments

  • Plan and conductscientific/laboratory experiments and evaluate and interpret data

  • Provide training andguidance to laboratory personnel

  • Prepare technicalreports, publications and oral presentations

  • Act as a leader inabsence of supervisor

  • Appropriate level ofunderstanding of applicable regulations

  • A willingness totravel internationally


  • Must be legallyauthorized to work in the United States without restriction.

  • Must be willing totake a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).

  • Must be 18 years ofage or older.
