Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
The Facilities, Planning and Management (FP&M) Department at Iowa State University is currently seeking applicants for the position of Pipefitter. The position will perform skilled work installing and maintaining high pressure steam systems, sanitary sewer systems, domestic water systems, chilled water systems, compressed air systems, and high pressure natural gas systems. This position will also read and interpret blue prints and drawings for a variety of utilities. The successful candidate will have the ability to trouble shoot complex mechanical or distribution issues in the piping systems.

Four years of experience in the trade, including apprenticeship.
-Grade 1 operator Water Distribution License within first 6 months of employment. -Fusion welding certification for natural gas system, within 12 months of employment.
-Experience installing or operating steam systems. -Experience operating domestic water systems. -Experience installing large piping in trenches. -Experience operating excavation equipment. -Experience reading blueprints or drawings for utilities. -Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA regulations (confined spaces, asbestos, excavation, PPE, traffic control). -Demonstrated ability to trouble shoot complex issues. -Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, professionally and positively with others. -Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and complete tasks according to departmental guidelines.
