McFarland Clinic PC Ophthalmic Assistant (FT/PT) | Ophthalmology | Ames | 2021-138 in Ames, Iowa


McFarland Clinic has an opening for an energetic an Ophthalmic assistant for its Ames office. The candidate is expected to be a team player, willing to learn basic ophthalmic techniques as well as the working of advanced ophthalmic equipment.

Responsibilities include: Prepares patients for exams or treatments, takes visual acuity and performs basic screening tests. Takes brief history and other medical information. Educates patients and performs ancillary tests: OCT, fundus photos and visual fields. Assists in minor surgery & laser surgery.


  • High School Diploma, GED or HiSET

Days: Monday - Friday.

Hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (24 to 40 hours a week)


  • Ophthalmic experience preferred but not required/ on the job training available.

  • Excellent customer service skills and willing to be able to multi-task.

  • Keyboard and computer experience.

  • One year of work experience in medical office setting preferred.
