Job Description:Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Department of Graphic Design in the College of Design at Iowa State University is welcoming applications for part-time Lecturer position(s) and/or an Assistant Professor of Teaching to join our 14-person graphic design faculty and assist in advancing the department’s future goals. Applicants should demonstrate interest and ability to teach in all areas of Graduate and Undergraduate Graphic Design. This especially includes one or more of the following areas: interaction design, digital photography, creative technology, typography, experiential design, UX/UI design, or motion graphics. The successful candidate will have a strong spirit of collaboration and be committed to interdisciplinary teaching and dialogue and working with diverse groups.

We seek a candidate(s) to join our faculty as at least a part-time Lecturer (25%-50%) and/or Assistant Professor of Teaching at (100%) basis for a 9-month service period. A Lecturer is expected to teach 1-2 courses, and an Assistant Professor of Teaching will teach 3 courses per semester. Appointments may be 1-2 years, renewable, and are not tenure eligible. Classes are set to start January 25th, 2021.

The successful candidate(s) must be able to:- develop and teach independent courses, as well as teach current courses as part of a coordinated and dynamic team of Graphic Design instructors- demonstrate a clear understanding of design processes and methodology as part of the creative process.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

MFA in Graphic Design OR BFA in Graphic Design + Masters in related discipline OR BFA in Graphic Design + 5 years' professional experience

Preferred Qualifications:

-Experience developing and teaching Graphic Design courses.

  • Experience teaching at the Graduate-level-Demonstrated understanding of design processes, design research, and design methodology as part of the creative process.

Department/Program & College Description:

The Department of Graphic Design is part of ISU’s College of Design, along with Departments of Architecture, Art and Visual Cultures, Community and Regional Planning, Industrial Design, Interior Design, and Landscape Architecture. The Department offers a NASAD accredited BFA in Graphic Design, an MA in Experiential Graphic Design, and an MFA in Graphic Design. The department enrolls over 200 undergraduate and over 25 graduate students, all of whom engage in both traditional and emerging technologies and are prepared to become leaders in the field of visual communication.
