Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
The Leadership Studies Program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University invites applications for a faculty member to direct the program. The position calls for a colleague with expertise and experience in the broad, interdisciplinary area of leadership studies who honors a diversity of leadership styles and approaches.
As the leader of a cross-disciplinary studies program, the director oversees all aspects of the program including recruiting students for the minor, certificate and leadership studies courses, course scheduling and teaching assignments, managing program resources, sustaining and strengthening the various initiatives associated with the program, including study abroad opportunities, faculty development, collaboration with campus partners, and working with the program advisory board on curricular and planning issues for the program.
The position requires working with private and corporate donors interested in supporting the mission of the program and cultivating relationships to provide support for students and program initiatives. As interest in the minor and certificate programs continues to grow, the director is expected to sustain and develop new relationships on and off campus to increase the impact of the program in new areas such as corporate leadership, entrepreneurship, globalization, and continuing education.
Required Education and Experience
Appointment as Term Faculty: Terminal Advanced Degree and a demonstrated record of accomplishment in scholarship and effectiveness in teaching that meets university standards for appointment as a Lecturer in a department in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Appointment as Assistant Professor: Terminal Advanced Degree and a demonstrated record of accomplishment in scholarship and effectiveness in teaching that meets university standards for appointment at the Assistant Professor rank in a department in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Appointment as Associate Professor: Terminal Advanced Degree and a demonstrated record of accomplishment in scholarship and effectiveness in teaching that meets university standards for appointment at the Associate Professor rank in a department in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Appointment as Full Professor: Terminal Advanced Degree and a demonstrated record of accomplishment in scholarship and effectiveness in teaching that meets the university standards, i.e. national distinction in their discipline, for appointment at the Full Professor rank in a department in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

The director of leadership studies is an open rank faculty search. Applications will be accepted from current ISU faculty members, as well as, external candidates who meet the criteria for an appointment as a term, tenure-track, or tenured faculty in a department in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
The administrative appointment of this position is a 40%. Additional responsibilities in teaching could increase the overall appointment up to 100% or full-time.
Position filled as term faculty will carry a three to five year appointment term, negotiable with the selected candidate.
