Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

Iowa State University is seeking candidates for a Budget Analyst II. Under general direction from the Senior Vice President and Provost Program Manager, this position will manage fiscal operations of multiple departments. Departments include the Provost’s central office operations and support units, including the: Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching; Honors Program; Institutional Research; Lectures Program; Study Abroad Center; and Program for Women in Science and Engineering, along with the Office of Senior Vice President for Finance and University Services and other units as time and training is available.

Responsibilities include: fiscal planning, management, and reporting; financial transaction processing; business process tracking; compliance reviews; and general office support. This position will assist in the development and monitoring of the academic and central support units’ local budgets, provide support for an all-funds, multiple-year approach, and conduct budget scenario and planning activities.

With limited supervision, this position will authorize expenditures with signature authority, monitor budget-to-actual variances, track trends in spending, provide consultation on financial transaction and business processes, prepare financial reports, recommend uses of financial resources, and conduct periodic audits.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, strong organizational skills, analytical and mathematical skills, an understanding of accounting principles, the ability to make independent judgment, great attention to detail, and the ability to interact with a diverse group of individuals.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of related experience.

Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or related field.
Experience with fund accounting and budget development, particularly in higher education.
Experience with Microsoft Office and spreadsheet development. Experience that demonstrates the ability to monitor financial resources.
Experience that demonstrates the ability to work in a collaborative or project-based team environment.
