Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

Iowa State University's Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition invites applications for a 9-month Assistant/Associate/Full Professor (tenure-track) faculty position in Dairy Products Science and Technology. The position is 30% research, 30% teaching, 25% administration, and 15% service.

The selected candidate will conduct research in Dairy Products Science and Technology, focusing on establishing a dynamic, externally funded research program. They will teach undergraduate courses within the Food Science core curriculum, advise undergraduate students, and mentor graduate students. Additionally, this role includes directing the Iowa State University Creamery and contributing to the leadership of the Midwest Dairy Foods Research Center. The candidate will also be involved in campus committees, lead student activities, serve the dairy industry, and engage in professional organizations at both national and international levels.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Food Science, Dairy Science, or a related field, completed by the start date

  • Evidence of publications in peer-reviewed journals

  • At least six years of post-graduate experience in dairy processing/formulation

Associate Professor: For consideration at the associate professor rank, applicants must meet, in addition to the above requirements for this position, the department, college, and university standards for appointment at the associate professor rank with tenure, including excellence in scholarship that establishes significant contributions to the field or profession with potential for national distinction, and a high likelihood of sustained contributions to the field or profession and to the university.

Professor: For consideration at the professor rank, applicants must meet, in addition to the above requirements for this position, the department, college, and university standards for appointment at the professor rank with tenure, including national distinction in scholarship, as evident by wide recognition and outstanding contributions to the field or profession and the ability to sustain contributions to the field or profession and to the university.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Potential to establish a successful Dairy Products Science and Technology research program

  • Ability to effectively teach core undergraduate Food Science courses and mentor graduate students

  • Proven leadership skills in managing professional teams

Department/Program & College Description: The Food Science and Human Nutrition department offers undergraduate majors in Dietetics, Nutritional Science, Food Science, Culinary Food Science, and Nursing, as well as graduate programs in Nutritional Sciences, Food Science, Diet and Exercise, and Dietetics. The department is supported by the Colleges of Human Sciences and Agriculture and Life Sciences. Facilities include a micro-creamery, test kitchens, sensory evaluation units, shared analytical equipment, and pilot-scale processing facilities.
