General Purpose:

Lead shifts in conjunction with Production Supervisors to oversee daily plant operations. Support production operators to ensure assigned tasks are performed safely, correctly, and in a timely manner.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with production supervisors in planning and executing daily activities associated with plant operations

  • Help with planning of activities during downtimes or planned shutdown projects

  • Actively participate in training of new employees by providing guidance and feedback about their performance

  • Monitor emails for direction from upper management to ensure tasks are completed in a timely and orderly fashion

  • Assist with completing and distributing daily work schedules, packaging reports, labeling stickers or paperwork, and stencils

  • Post housekeeping assignments and ensure completion of housekeeping tasks

  • Participate in safety program and promote a safe work environment through monitoring and enforcement of safety protocols to production staff

  • Help perform and enforce the use of PPE as well as performing periodic inspections of PPE

  • Help operate equipment in production areas if relief or other suitable coverage cannot be provided

  • Keep an inventory of consumable parts and material needed to operate production area

  • Provide a good example to other team members through a positive attitude and adherence to company policies

  • Maintain safe working conditions for employees and compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding health and safety issues

  • Dedicate effort to safety as we expect every employee to leave work in the same condition as they arrive

  • Follow all DFA good manufacturing practices (GMP) and work in a manner consistent with all corporate regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements

  • Exhibit the values and ethics of Dairy Farmers of America through honesty, discretion, and sound judgment

  • Adhere to all DFA Quality, Safety and GMP policies and procedures and report any nonconformity

  • Attend required training, including but not limited to, Safety, GMP, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP), and Safe Quality Foods (SQF)

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Two- or four-year degree in food science or experience in related field preferred but not required

  • On the job training with an experienced Team Lead for a minimum of 3 to 6 months

  • Operate forklifts after receiving Lift Truck Operator training
