Primary Location: IA-Algona Organization: SPG-NC Job: Live Animal Production/Hog Director of Nutrition - (21000055)DescriptionSmithfield Foods, a leader in US porkproduction, has an opening for a Director of Nutrition in Iowa. Thecandidate will oversee our Nutrition team on the development and implementationof our nutrition and feed quality programs throughout our company and milloperations. Supervisory Authority:YesEssential Job Responsibilities: Establishesformula nutrient specifications for all production phases.Workscollaboratively with procurement, feed manufacturing, and production personnelto establish cost/return relationships for nutrients, ingredients, and finaldiets.Directsleast-cost formulation and determines efficacy and inclusion rate limitationsof ingredients based on in-house and external research sources.Overseesproduction research and conducts appropriate efficacy experiments on potentialingredients, equipment, and various nutrition related technologies.Providestechnical guidance for production personnel on implementation of system-basedfeeding programs and (or) new technologies into appropriate productionsituation.Supportdevelopment of feed quality control standards and ensure implementation at allfeed manufacturing facilities. Establishesrelationships with Industry and Academic professionals relevant to SHPNutrition and Production Research needs.Provideseducational support to production personnel relative to nutrition currentprograms and current and future research technologies.Responsiblefor being in compliance with all environmental laws and procedures to whichSmithfield Foods subscribes.Report all environmental issues immediately to theirsupervisor.Read and understand the company's emergency notificationprocess and will be responsible for reviewing that policy at their work site.Performsother duties as assigned by manager.QualificationsThe idealcandidate will have a M.S. or Ph.D. degree in animal agriculture or a relatedfield.
